Beethoven composes this solo piano piece in 1801, which is one of the most famous works of his. Its name, Moonlight, comes from a criticism of a music critic, Heinrich Friedrich Ludwig Rellstab, who compares the dim mood of its first movement with the moonlight of the Lake Lucerne at night.
